About the Salary → Hourly calculator

A free salary-to-hourly calculator. Enter your annual salary, hours worked per week and weeks worked per year to see the equivalent hourly rate — plus daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly figures. Useful for comparing salaried offers to contract or freelance rates, negotiating overtime and sanity-checking job postings.

How it works

  1. 1
    Enter your annual salary
Use your gross (pre-tax) salary for an apples-to-apples comparison with hourly or contract rates. Tap a preset chip for a one-tap baseline.
  2. 2
    Set your hours per week
Default is 40 (a standard full-time week in the US/UK/India). Drop to 30 for part-time, raise to 50–60 if you regularly work long weeks — your real hourly rate falls fast.
  3. 3
    Set weeks worked per year
Default is 52 (paid time off counts as worked weeks for salaried staff). Subtract any unpaid weeks off — sabbatical, unpaid leave — to model what you're really earning.
  4. 4
    Read the hourly rate
The hero shows your equivalent hourly rate. The breakdown card lists daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly equivalents so you can quote whichever cadence the conversation needs.

Frequently asked questions

  • Hourly = Annual salary / (Hours per week × Weeks per year). For a standard US schedule that's salary / (40 × 52) = salary / 2,080. A $100,000 salary at 40 hrs × 52 weeks is $48.08/hour.

  • For a salaried role, use 52 — your PTO is paid, so every week of the year contributes to your salary. For freelance or contract work where time off is unpaid, subtract your expected unpaid weeks to see what each working hour really needs to bill.

  • Whatever you enter. Plug in gross (pre-tax) salary to get gross hourly; plug in net (take-home) to get net hourly. The calculator doesn't apply taxes — use a separate paycheck calculator for that.

  • Convert the salary to hourly here, then add 25–35% on top of the contract rate to roughly account for benefits, employer payroll taxes, unpaid time off and self-employment tax. A $100K salary ≈ $48/hr; a contractor charging $65/hr is in the same ballpark once benefits are netted in.

  • The hourly rate shown is your average across all hours worked. If you're salaried and pulling 50-hour weeks, your effective hourly is 20% lower than someone working the same role at 40 hrs/week. Raise hours/week to 50 to see the real number.

  • Yes. Enter your annualised pay (hourly rate × hours × weeks) as the salary, or use the breakdown card to read weekly/monthly equivalents directly. For pure hourly workers, multiplying your rate × hours × weeks gives the salary equivalent for negotiation.
